The at-home health test everyone needs
Out of the estimated 1.1 million people living with HIV in the United States, roughly 20 percent are unaware they have the infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) Test
The most common form of testing, the EIA requires a sample of your blood, oral fluids, or urine to detect HIV antibodies within your system. The test can be performed at your local health department, public health clinics, or your doctor's office. The results typically take up to two weeks.
Rapid HIV Antibody Tests
Similar to the EIA test, this too uses blood, oral fluid, or urine to detect HIV antibodies. The only difference? Your results are ready in 10 to 20 minutes.
Home Testing Kits
The Home Access HIV-1 Test System--currently the only testing kit approved by the Food and Drug Administration--allows you to get results from the privacy of your own home. How it works: Collect a sample of blood by sticking your finger with the sterile lancet provided. Dab the blood on the special collection card that comes with the kit. Send the sample back to the lab for testing, and then call the lab to retrieve your results.
